FAQ- Evaluations

  • What is a psychoeducational evaluation?

A psychoeducational evaluation is a comprehensive assessment that looks at how a person learns, thinks, and manages emotions or behavior. At AIM Private Clinic, this process may include cognitive testing, academic achievement measures, attention and memory tasks, and social-emotional screening. The goal is to understand strengths, identify challenges such as ADHD, autism, learning differences, or anxiety, and provide clear recommendations for support at home, school, or work.

  • Who can benefit from an evaluation?

Anyone who is struggling with learning, attention, behavior, or emotional challenges can benefit from an evaluation. At AIM Private Clinic, we work with children as young as 2.5 years old through adulthood. They’re especially helpful if you or your child are facing difficulties at school, work, or home and need answers, clarity, and a plan for support.

  • How is AIM Private Clinic different from evaluations provided through schools?

School-based evaluations are focused on determining whether a child qualifies for special education services or classroom accommodations. They are limited in scope, tied to school eligibility requirements, and not available to adults. At AIM Private Clinic, we provide comprehensive, private-pay evaluations for children and adults. Our assessments dig deeper—looking at learning, attention, emotional, and behavioral factors—so you leave with clear answers and tailored recommendations. Because results are private, you decide when and with whom to share them, whether that’s a school, workplace, or healthcare provider.

  • How long does the evaluation take?

Most evaluations take between 3 to 6 hours, depending on the type of testing needed and the individual’s pace. Because the process is comprehensive, we recommend setting aside the full day and not planning to return to school or work afterward. This helps reduce stress, allows for breaks as needed, and ensures we can gather the most accurate results.

  • What happens during an evaluation?

An evaluation is a structured but comfortable process designed to get a full picture of how you or your child think, learn, and manage emotions. It usually includes:

    - A detailed intake interview to understand history and concerns

    - One-on-one testing that may cover thinking skills, attention, memory, academics, and emotional or behavioral functioning

    - Questionnaires for parents, teachers, or the individual themselves

    - A feedback session where we review the results, explain the findings in plain language, and provide clear recommendations

  • Do you offer virtual or in-person evaluations?

Most of our evaluations are completed in person at AIM Private Clinic, because many tests need face-to-face interaction to ensure accuracy and reliability. However, certain parts of the process—such as the intake interview, questionnaires, or the feedback session—can often be done virtually for your convenience. If you need special accommodations, we’re happy to work with you to find the best approach for your situation.

  • How long will it take to get the results/report?

You can typically expect your evaluation results and written report within about 3 weeks after testing. Because every report is carefully reviewed and tailored to each individual, we recommend allowing up to 4 weeks for completion. Once your report is ready, we’ll schedule a feedback session to go over the findings in detail and answer all of your questions.

  • Will the evaluation qualify my child for school accommodations (504 plan, IEP, or college support)?

Our reports are widely accepted by schools, colleges, and testing agencies as documentation to request accommodations. While each school or institution makes the final decision, we provide the detailed testing and recommendations that are often required to qualify.

  • Do you accept insurance?

We are a private-pay clinic and do not bill insurance directly. However, we can provide you with a superbill—a detailed receipt—that you may submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. Every plan is different, so we recommend checking with your provider about coverage.

  • How much does an evaluation cost?

The cost reflects the time, depth, and expertise required for comprehensive testing, detailed analysis, and a personalized report with recommendations.

  • Why are evaluations private pay?

Private-pay evaluations allow us to provide more comprehensive and personalized testing without the restrictions of insurance companies or schools. This means you get a deeper look at strengths and challenges, results remain fully confidential, and you choose how to use the report—with schools, doctors, workplaces, or just for your own understanding.
